Tata Consumer Products, one of the biggest names in Indian tea, has announced a new luxury line: 1868 by Tata Tea – Crafted for Connoisseurs. The name nods to the year Jamsetji Tata founded the group, and the range is aimed at drinkers who want to explore tea beyond the everyday cup.

Three products open the line, all built on Indian black tea: Cream of Assam, an Assam with selected golden tips; Masala Chai, made with real spices; and Gourmet Street Chai, a hand-picked Assam with ginger and cardamom. The company says the brand rests on three ideas — origin, craft and experience. Pricing and retail channels have not been disclosed.

The launch fits a wider pattern: large tea houses are increasingly steering shoppers toward origin-led teas with tips and more layered flavour — a sign that appetite for premium Indian black tea keeps growing.
