US trade magazine Roast revealed the winners of its 23rd annual Roaster of the Year awards on 19 October, a week after unveiling the finalists. Judges look at coffee quality, sustainability, staff and community education, and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
The micro title, for companies roasting under 100,000 pounds a year, went to Dessert Oasis Coffee Roasters in Michigan. Founded in 2009, it runs four cafés and a Ferndale headquarters that houses its roastery, bakery and training centre, alongside a dedicated education department. The macro award went to Utopian Coffee of Fort Wayne, Indiana, which roasts close to a million pounds a year and has bought more than a million pounds of Regenerative Organic Certified coffee.
Both winners were praised for their environmental work, from electric-vehicle deliveries to composting waste. Full profiles appear in the magazine's November/December 2026 issue.
