PG Tips, part of the Lipton Teas & Infusions portfolio, has unveiled its biggest overhaul in years. The Original variant moves to a reformulated, fuller-tasting blend, and each bag now holds 3.125g of tea instead of 2.9g, with recommended retail prices left untouched. Gold, Decaf and English Breakfast get new pack designs, and the refreshed range reaches major UK retailers from autumn 2026.
The change followed a year of development and research involving more than 1,000 consumers, which pointed to taste and quality as the main reasons people pick one tea over another. In the company's own testing, the new blend outscored the current one by 13 percentage points on preference and purchase intent. A £1.5m marketing push will support the relaunch in the final quarter.
It is a reminder of how central black tea remains in Britain, where it accounts for eight in ten cups drunk — and of how directly the amount of leaf in a bag shows up in the cup.
