South London brewery Momo Kombucha has launched a seasonal watermelon kombucha created in partnership with sustainable produce supplier Natoora. The drink starts from Momo's fermented-tea base, blended with Sentinel watermelons grown by the Zerbinati family in the Mantua region of northern Italy.
The melons, which can reach up to 18 kilograms, are grown slowly with restricted watering for each plant to concentrate their sweetness and flavour. The 330ml bottle retails from £4.50 and is available through Ocado, Selfridges, Whole Foods Market, GAIL's Bakeries, Planet Organic and direct from the brand.
It marks the third consecutive year of the collaboration between the two companies, which also supports Natoora's Farm Fund, a programme backing young farmers using agroecological methods. The launch underlines growing interest among kombucha makers in carefully sourced fruit and traceable provenance.
