Irish ingredients group Kerry formally opened a coffee roasting and extraction plant in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on 30 September — its first manufacturing site in the state. The project was first announced in September 2025, and the building previously belonged to tea and botanicals supplier Martin Bauer.
The plant can handle roughly 12 million pounds of roasted coffee a year and runs separate lines for hot extraction and cold brew. Its concentrates are destined for ready-to-drink beverages, dairy, ice cream, alcoholic drinks and even savoury sauces. Kerry says the process it uses cuts carbon emissions by 61%.
The investment underlines how fast demand is growing for coffee as an ingredient inside other products — an industrial side of the business that is expanding alongside the familiar café cup.
