Well-known coffee author and content creator James Hoffmann has teamed up with fermentation and post-harvest specialist Lucia Solis to launch a new global project called "The Fermentation Project." The concept: a single Guatemalan coffee, processed through four different fermentation methods, will be roasted by dozens of roasters worldwide and tasted simultaneously by thousands of coffee enthusiasts.
Solis brings an unusual background to coffee — she studied viticulture and enology at UC Davis and spent nine years in Napa Valley wine production before shifting her focus to coffee. The project continues Hoffmann's series of global educational tastings, following last year's decaf-focused edition, which sold around 30,000 tasting kits worldwide.
A live tasting is planned for early September 2026, with more than 100 international roasters already confirmed to take part.
