The International Coffee Organization (ICO) on 1 October unveiled its Coffee Market Intelligence Platform, an online tool that pulls the sector's scattered market information into one place. It was launched in Geneva at the 142nd session of the International Coffee Council, on the very first UN-recognised International Coffee Day.

The platform offers the ICO's daily composite indicator price, New York and London futures prices, monthly exchange-certified stocks, country-by-country trade flows and annual production and consumption figures, including an interactive 3D globe. Its data comes from members' export reports, certificates of origin, customs records and national estimates.

Current-year dashboards are free for everyone, ICO members get free historical data reaching back to 1963, and commercial organisations can take out annual subscriptions. As Executive Director Vanúsia Nogueira put it, "good data cannot eliminate volatility, but it can reduce uncertainty".
