A recently published industry report shows that China produced 3.92 million tonnes of tea in 2025, roughly 54% of the world's supply and 4.8% more than the year before. Green tea made up the bulk at about 2.15 million tonnes, followed by black tea at nearly 570,000 tonnes.
Tea-growing area reached 3.54 million hectares, with Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan the leading provinces. Exports rose 12% to 418,800 tonnes, green tea covering 88% of the volume at an average price of US$3.69 per kilogram. Morocco remains the single largest destination market.
The report also describes a wave of modernisation: harvesting machinery, higher-yielding cultivars and, in some areas, drones ferrying fresh leaf to processing facilities.
