Cafeology, a UK importer, roaster, and distributor of premium, ethically sourced coffee based in Sheffield and founded more than 20 years ago, completed a management buy-out announced on July 31, 2026. The three founders — Andy McClatchey, Toni Unkles, and Bryan Unkles — handed a majority stake to the senior management team, led by Steve Hampshire (former head of coffee, now sales director) and Joe Cross (former head of operations).
The deal was partly funded by a loan of up to £2 million from the South Yorkshire Debt Fund, managed by FW Capital out of a £20 million regional fund. The founders remain involved in the medium term to ensure continuity, and the company will keep its Yorkshire base and ethical sourcing culture.
